Dead Space: Downfall
Dead Space Downfall is a new horror sci-fi animated movie based on and is a prequel to the well received Electronic Arts video game called Dead Space – which I am playing right now. Dead Space: Downfall follows some of a the crew of the Ishimura, a large space ship called a planet cracker which mines deep into planets to extract valuable ore. While preparing a planet for cracking on the edge of known space a strange artifact is discovered which is thought to be a religious marker of some sort. Not long after the artifact is discovered a massive increase of violence, missing persons and death engulf the crew and so the story of survival begins.

Dead Space: Downfall does well to add to the story just before the video game it is based upon begins but on it’s own as a feature length sci-fi animation this film falls flat on it’s face. It looks cheap, is very genetic and the reason I have not referred to it as a horror film through this review because there are really no “scary” elements to this film. At certain points of the dialogue this film is almost comedic and the sound effects and voice acting is below par.
Are you a fan of the video game and would like to learn about the Dead Space story? This game is for you. Are you a fan of mature sci-fi horror animated movies? Make a pass at this or watch with very low expectations.
