Today Microsoft has made a massive update to the system software of the Xbox 360 by released the New Xbox Experience update or NXE. There are a slew of updates most notably a completely redesigned graphical user interface, customizable avatars, movie streaming, download queuing and much much much much more.

As I have stated before the FIFA franchise of football (soccer) games is very popular here in Jamaica and from my review of Fifa 2008 you can see that I enjoyed playing it, especially with friends. FIFA 2009 was released a few weeks ago and ever since the demo was released in September about a month before the release of the full game in October I’ve been playing it.

One of the biggest video game releases this year has been leaked online almost 3 weeks before it’s official release date. Pirates have already gotten their hands on Epic’s triple A game and thousands of filesharers are downloading or have downloaded the game.

It really sucks as I’ve already seen the ending, understood the story and all the multiplayer reworking. I am not naive and ignorant to the practice of modifying video game consoles but I really don’t like when a highly anticipated game is pirated weeks before it’s release, and this is happening more and more. Dead Space is now out for the Playstation 3 and the Xbox 360 and will also be released for the PC in less than a week. From watching the latest trailers and following the avalanche of promotion surrounding this well publicized game I must say I am impressed.

Resident Eil 5 was my most anticipated game of E3 2008 and the only problem was I couldn’t get it in my hands soon enough and would have to wait till March 2009, after a while I didn’t mind though because RE5 would make the perfect birthday gift for me seeing that my birthday is in early March. A few weeks after E3 I did a post about why I am so excited about Resident Evil 5. That excitement jumped a couple notches higher today when I say the latest trailer for RE5 at the Tokyo Game Show. Mr Wesker is back and his movie like appearance makes Neyo look like he is still in kinder garden. Enjoy the trailer.

I’ve been testing out the Xbox 360 version of the demo of FIFA 09 for a few days now at The Area 51 arcade with friends. As expected the demo is quite limited with only 2 minute halves and 6 teams to choose from but my favourite team is there (Chelsea) so I’ve been playing primarily with them and also a litle of AC Milan.

Takes a little getting used to I must admit and for now my defence is nothing to speak of. Waiting on the full version to be released next month and I look forward to the experience of playing the full game. Continue Reading »
