New DSi Upgrade revealed – DSiLL

Nintendo has initiated another milking of the DS udder with the announcement of an upgrade for the DSi called DSiLL. The DSi LL will be released in Japan on November 21 and feature a new, bigger screen which will be 4.2″ and retail for $220.

It will be available in three colours Wine Red, Dark Brown (seen above), and Natural White and will come with two stylus pens and three DSi-Ware titles pre-downloaded on it; two brain training titles and DS Easy Dictionary.

PSN Games now Available on Amazon

PlayStation Network games and add-on game content for Playstation 3 and Playstation Portable are now available at a new special Amazon.com video game store. If you purchase PlayStation Network content through Amazon.com, you will receive a code immediately after purchase or you can choose to email the code to yourself or send directly as a gift.

At launch there will be 200 PlayStation games and game related content available, including titles such as Flower Paradise, PAIN, Pixel Junk Eden, Fat Princess, Super Stardust HD and classics such as Twisted Metal: Head-On, Loco Roco, SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo and WipEout Pure. Many more PlayStation Network game titles will become available on Amazon.com as well as the PlayStation Store over the coming months.

The announcement of a smaller, slighter and more efficient version of the Playstation 3 is not very surprising though the price cut was well needed as the price of the PS3 was one of the main reasons holding back the console from Sony.

Microsoft’s Project Natal could be huge

I’ve seen the press conferences from the big three and each had their own interesting bits bit Microsoft’s conference was most entertaining overall. The biggest announcement made during their conference though and maybe the biggest news of E3 2009 is their Project Natal.

Project Natal is the code name for a “controller-free gaming and entertainment experience” by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 video game platform. Sony’s 2009 E3 conference was more low key than Microsoft’s but it did offer up some new information and surprises. I own a Wii that I never play anymore, I sold my DS lite with the intention of buying a DSi but was underwhelmed and decided it was not worth my money right now. My Nintendo fanboyism has waned over the last few years and now while I respect the company, all they have done for my and can understand their aim I now understand that Nintendo is becoming more and more alien to me. Of the Big three’s e3 press conferences I was actually more excited to see what Nintendo was coming with especially after being disappointed last year. Unfortunately my disappointment continues with only a few games looking interesting the biggest of which is the new Metroid title.

Microsoft kicked off E3 2009 with a 2 hour-plus press conference ripe with massive annoucements and lots of surprises. I don’t even know where to start but I know that Sony and Nintendo will have a difficult time bettering Microsoft’s show. Below are some of the major announcements made by Microsoft this year with special bias on the things I care about.

PSP Go Leaked before E3

One of the pillars of Sony’s 2009 E3 press conference will not come as a surprise as information on the new PSP Go was leaked unto the internet before the press conference even got underway.

Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, Jak & Daxter and Metal Gear Solid are all either confirmed or mentioned.
The Go’s 16 gigs of flash memory and bluetooth support (”You can also tether it to your cell phone,”) are touted.
In discussing the PSP Go’s video-playing capability, it sounds like the rental service through PSN will extend to the PSP Go.
PSP Go will not replace the PSP-3000; the 3000 will still be kept on the market.
The PSP Go will arrive this fall.
It’s 43 percent lighter than the PSP-3000
It has a 3.8-inch screen

It doesn’t look too attractive to me but I’ll wait to see it in person and hold it in my hands. I have had no reason to buy a PSP up to no but this along with the thoughts of portable Grand Turismo and Metal Gear title might just push be to grab one this fall – depending on the price of course.
